Marseille Signs Matteo Guendouzi
Arsenal midfielder, Matteo Guendouzi, has joined French Ligue 1 side, Olympique de Marseille, on a one-year loan.
News of the 22-year-old Frenchman’s signing was revealed in a statement released on Marseille’s website on Tuesday, 6 July.
The statement reads: “Matteo Guendouzi is a modern midfielder, technically strong and with a good passing ability. He is a player of character and has a good vision of the game. These are qualities that he will undoubtedly be able to bring to les Olympeins.”
Guendouzi’s early football career began in Ligue 1 – starting in 2016, he played for Lorient, making 26 appearances for the club. In 2018, he signed to Arsenal for an undisclosed fee, believed to be in the region of £7 million plus bonuses.
The midfielder then joined Bundesliga team, Hertha Berlin, on loan during the 2020/2021 season. He scored two goals in 24 appearances for the club.
Guendouzi’s Marseille move comes a month after Gunners team-mate, David Luiz, left the English club following the expiration of his contract.
